The Bradford Refugee Forum[BRF]has suddenly become of age. We have come a long way, travelled a bumpy road and encountered numerous hurdles. But thanks to our reliable members and faithful leadership BRF has weathered storms.
Today BRF is turning the corner. For the first time we have the means to reach each and every member faster and reliably. We can now also be able to sell our views to the World and ask peoples opinion. I am overwhelmed. May I take this opportunity congradulate BRF members and thank our coordinator, Abraham and our web designer.
Now that we have the means to reach refugees in Bradford,West Yorkshire, UK and the World let us play our roles honestly. Let me remind you that it is our role to
- (a)reach out to the destitute around us to help them know where to get help-food,a place to sleep, clothes, transport.(b)to help asylum seekers find legal help and useful information on how to improve their status.
- (c)help refugees find accommodation, employment, benefits and so on.
- (d)to be there when ever asylum seekers and refugees need our help-even though sometimes the task looks impossible.
CONGRADULATIONS! But let us remember that this website achievement is only the beginning. We have a much bigger job ahead of us. Let us communicate . Let us look ahead.
Roben-Vice Chairman -BRF.

My namesake Abraham Maslow observed that there were four stages in learning curve/process. Stage1. You don’t know that you don’t know.  Stage 2. You know that you don’t know.  Stage 3. You know what you don’t know. Stage 4. You know
A good number of us are still in stage 3 and remain committed to lifelong learning. One of my role models is Paul Meyer a wealthy American businessman and philanthropist. His ideas entitled Dynamics of Successful Management have inspired many success stories around the globe. The article below is the first installment I share with you.,
Paul Meyer, a recipient of numerous global awards that include International Man of the Year, 20th century award for achievement, most admired man of the decade, world lifetime achievement award, hall of fame for investment excellence, international who is who of intellectuals and man of the year says that success is the progressive realization of worthwhile predetermined goals. He notes that successful individuals have certain unique qualities which are summarized below:
-  Positive self-image. Your image is what you believe about yourself. Take time to know and like yourself. Believe in yourself and in your personal worth.
- Self reliance. Be confident and positive in your attitude. Trust your instinct.
- Initiative. Have the courage to take risks, to change and to try new ideas and things
- Creativity. When faced with new situations which have no prescribed guidelines, devise new ideas, methods and pathways to your goals. Do not be afraid
- Resilience. Do not give up. Ranulph Fiennes reached the summit of Mount Everest in 2009 at the mature age of 65. Prior to that he had a triple by-pass operation following cardiac arrest and was treated for prostrate cancer. He lives in southern England. In May 2006 New Zealander Mark Inglis who is a double amputee also successfully climbed to the summit of Mount Everest at the age of 47.
- Communication. Effective relationship building is fuelled by effective communication
- Staying flexible. This is recognition that there are many options available for achieving any goal or purpose
- Obeying the law
- Treating others fairly and honestly.
- Belief in people
Use the above checklist to audit your unique qualities. I just did and found scope for improvement particularly in terms of ATTITUDES AND HABITS!!!!. The next posting will look at effective goal-setting. So long.
